Pycnogenol\u00ae is a patented extract derived from the bark of the maritime pine (Pinus Maritime). The first scientist to study the biological effects of maritime pine bark was Dr. Jack Masquelier from the University of Bordeaux.<\/p>\n

His research began after examining certain historical reports about an unknown substance derived from maritime pine bark that was used in the Middle Ages to treat scurvy. The research focused on the naturally occurring proanthocyanidins in maritime pine bark, particularly their antioxidant properties*. Indeed, in vitro studies demonstrated that the extract from maritime pine bark possesses strong antioxidant properties* similar to those of vitamins C and E. Subsequently, this extract was patented and is marketed under the trade name Pycnogenol\u00ae.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
