As part of the initiative for continuous clinical research, a research protocol is taking place in the University of Ioannina (B’ Pathology Clinic) in order to associate the levels of vitamin D of plasma with the risk factors of developing cardiovascular disease in adolescents and adults (ASSOCIATION OF VITAMIN D LEVELS WITH RISK FACTORS AND DRUGS FOR CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE IN ADOLESCENTS AND ADULTS).
As part of this particular protocol, the effects of administering vitamin D orally to the metabolic parameters of the patients with metabolic syndrome. The vitamin D used is by Lamberts (Vitamin D, 1000IU, Dose 2000 IU daily). A metabolic parameter that was recorded is the level of 8-isoprostanes (Oxidative Stress Indicator) in the urine of patients with metabolic syndrome after being administered vitamin D.
The results were impressive since the administration of vitamin D brought about decrease in the levels of 8-isoprostanes in the urine. The publication of the results in the 8th National Conference of Free Radicals and Oxidative Stress (Thessaloniki 12-14 October 2012) was accompanied by first prize for said project by the GREEK SOCIETY OF FREE RADICALS AND OXIDATIVE STRESS!
